Eight Months Old

Jacob hit 8 months on Saturday after a busy week of development and new adventures. In the last few weeks he has begun to crawl, pull up on things, balance standing on his on own (for a few seconds), crawl faster, sleep longer during the night, sleep less during the day, receive his first black-eye (first rule of Baby Fight Club: don't talk about Baby Fight Club), crawl faster still, and disliked his first food.

Him moving around is a lot of fun, but a lot more work. Each day he seems to expand his borders. He has almost made it through the entire house.

Regarding the black-eye - I was taking a picture of him one evening and he began to crawl towards me. As I took another picture, he grabbed for the wrist band and jerked the camera out of my hands. The camera promptly whacked him under his eye. He was unhappy about this and cried and wanted nothing to do with me until later when he saw I had his bedtime bottle.

As for the food he didn't like - Jacob had his first meat dish on Saturday. I believe it was chicken and gravy. As you will see from the pictures, it tasted as bad as it smelled (and it smells like dog food).

Exploring the house and his personal kitchen drawer.

Hi America!

Looks closely at his 'ralls. I went in awhile after he woke up from a nap and saw that he had taken all (5 total) his pacifiers and shoved them in there.

Mentally preparing for bedtime.

This was the picture taken just as Jacob pulled the camera from my hands. As mentioned earlier, this led to...

Yep, look at that shiner. I'll save this one for the trail.

Hiding from daddy. Actually Jacob has begun conducting his own games of peek-a-boo. It's pretty cute.

I could easily make another joke about the eye, but I won't.

YUMMY Jacob loves chicken!

Such sadness and yet, we take pictures. I am sure when he is in high school he will appreciate it.

Helping out with his laundry.

Nudity, Crawling and Home Movies

With a few exceptions the following pictures are from last week while the video is from our first few days in Texas (the exception being what I took this morning of Jacob in his crib and the on the floor). I simply haven't had the chance to upload the video till today.

These pictures were taken while I was trying to change Jacob's diaper...a job which has become more difficult in recent days.

The Sweet Tooth Gang

The Sweet Tooth Gang (also known as Jacob and his cousins, Reagan and Ryan) were finally able to meet and spend some time together this weekend! What began as my sister, brother-in-law and nephews coming out here for a visit and Rangers game end up as the three of us driving down Friday evening. Regardless of the change in plans, we all had a great time and it was nice to finally see them again.

Reagan didn't take too long to warm up to us, though he asked Aunt Jenn first to see his "train store". I was finally invited into his inner sanctum where we played trains, hid from snakes and a monkey and then watched Sand Lot, but only the dog chase scene.

The next day my grandma and Aunt Janis stopped by for a brief visit to see the boys. Grandma had never met Jacob or Ryan and was very happy so finally see all her great-grandsons together. Unfortunately they arrived just as Jacob was wanting to take a nap. They got in a little holding time, but he didn't last long and was fussy.

Saturday night we grilled and Jacob and Reagan played chase in the back yard. I assume you can still call it "chase" when the chaser is being flown around by dad. Either way, both were giggling through the whole game. While we ate, Jacob got a taste of his first teething biscuit. He was holding onto it and studying it and then took a huge bite of it. He thought about that for a second or two before he began to gag on it. After it was retrieved, he did much better and went through two of them pretty quickly. The biggest even came right before we ate though as Jacob began to crawl. It was just a few small steps, but it was a move. Sunday he went further. I figure here in a few days there will be no stopping him.

Jacob just loved his cousins though. He would sit and stare at them for the longest time. In the car, he would laugh at everything Reagan did. The only 'problem' came when Jacob discovered Reagan's cool trains. Jacob quickly began reaching for them. Reagan tried to explain that they were his, but for some reason Jacob couldn't grasp the concept. Moods were calmed and Thomas and friends will live to see another day.

There are plenty of pictures from our two days there (almost 200) and that is just from my camera. Visit our literal sister site, THE HULLABALOO, to see another perspective. That's right friends! It's the very first Jacob's Land Cross-over Event!

Tootsie Roll & Jelly Bean together again!

Jacob and Ryan found our trip to Wal-Mart very stimulating.

If you look closely, you can tell Jenn is straining. That's because this was the fifth atemtp at getting this pic.

"I got you!."

Amy takes a turn with the boys.

Jacob's great-aunt Janis tries to hold on to the wiggle worm.

Great-Grandma finally meets Jacob.

Ryan takes a break from the fun to play with his foot.

Mommy and Jacob enjoy the 104 degree heat.

As the picture snapped, Jacob took a swing at Reagan's head. It didn't go over well.

Yes, that is grass. In order to calm the situation mentioned above, I asked Reagan to tell me what to take a picture of next.

Ryan unsure about his sweet potatos.

The boys hard at work.

Not quite sure what was happening here, but Divine Design is on in the background.

Long story short: Jacob kept taking Ryan's pacifier and Reagan became very protective of it.

Reagan was holding Jacob's hand...until he spotted the camera.

Happy boys!.

Getting dressed for church.

Ryan gives a shout out to his viewers.

Aunt Jenn assist Reagan in his video game.

"Man Ryan, isn't chewin' on your hand the coolest?"

Reagan turns the tables and takes some pictures of his own. He is a very good photographer.

"People let me tell you 'bout my best friend..."
